“We’re SO busy! The schedule is full, the team is working hard, and we’re seeing patients all day. But the numbers just aren’t where they should be.”
Sound familiar?
It’s a conversation I have with orthodontic practice owners more often than you might think.
And here’s the reality:
A busy practice and a profitable practice aren’t always the same thing.
Being busy measures activity. Being profitable measures how effectively your business is operating.
Are You Watching the Right Numbers?
You can have a packed schedule and still struggle with collections, overhead, or cash flow.
That’s why I encourage practice owners to consistently review five key areas:
- Production & Collections: Are you collecting what you’re producing?
- New Patient Exams & Starts: Are your consultations converting?
- Accounts Receivable: How much money is sitting unpaid?
- Payroll & Overhead: Are your expenses aligned with your revenue?
- Marketing ROI: Are your marketing dollars generating actual starts?
These numbers tell a story.
And sometimes that story reveals opportunities you didn’t even know existed.
This Month’s Challenge
Take one hour to review your year-to-date numbers.
Ask yourself:
“If we continue operating exactly as we are today, will I be happy with where we finish the year?”
Identify ONE area that needs improvement and create a 30-day action plan.
Small, intentional changes can make a big difference.
From My Coaching Notebook
One of my favorite moments is when a doctor begins connecting the dots between their numbers and their operations.
Suddenly, instead of asking, “How can we get busier?” we’re asking:
“How can we become better at what we’re already doing?”
That’s where meaningful growth begins.
